The trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ was released today on August 14 at a grand event in Mumbai. The upcoming film stars Kangana in the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and will release in theatres on September 6, 2024.

The film focuses on India during the 1975 Emergency. Kangana Ranaut is playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi In this intense political drama, she will reveal the ‘darkest chapter’ in the country’s history.

Apart from Kangana, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhary and Shreyas Talpade. Shreyas Talpade plays the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Anupam Kher plays the role of Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik plays the role of former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram.

The trailer depicts the relationship of young Indira Gandhi with her father, late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, when she started her political journey. It also shows how she faced wars, political upheavals and various challenges during her long career. Apart from this, the trailer also shows how Indira Gandhi’s life unfolded like a ‘Shakespearean tragedy’.

Kangana Ranaut announced ‘Emergency’ in 2021 but later clarified that it is a political drama but not an Indira Gandhi biopic. Apart from acting in the film, Kangana has also directed it.
