In short

  • Starlink India launch is likely to be within the next 12 months
  • Plans can start from around Rs 850 per month
  • Initial service is said to support 30,000-50,000 urban users

Elon Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink is allegedly preparing to introduce its services in India, and new details from NDTV suggest that the rollout may be within the next 12 months. The company has already received a letter of intentions from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), which removes a major obstacle in the approval process. Here is everything that we know about it.

According to sources quoted by NDTV benefits, Starlink will initially offer internet bandwidth between 600GBPS and 700GBPS. About 30,000 to 50,000 users are expected to support around 30,000 to 50,000 users in select urban places in this initial stage of launch. Over the next few years, the company aims to expand its bandwidth up to 3 TBPS by 2027, which can allow it to serve many more users across the country, once all approval is made.

While the final pricing remains to be confirmed, a report of economic time suggests that Starlink’s monthly plans in India may start as $ 10 – around Rs 850. The company is also expected to offer unlimited data under its initial publicity plans, aimed at attracting users quickly and construction scale.

Even though satellite internet services are expected to be more expensive to operate in India due to regulatory costs, Starlinks are planned for aggressive pricing to balance high early investment. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly recommended an additional Rs 500 per month per month. It has also proposed 4 percent revenue fee along with 8 percent licensing fee, and a minimum spectrum block of Rs 3,500 is charged annually. These recommendations are still waiting for approval from the government.

Despite the expected costs, the starlink may still proceed with low pricing to cover its expenses via the scale. The company is expected to reach 10 million users in India in a long time, which will help offset the cost of high spectrum and infrastructure.

For those unfamiliar people, Starlink is a satellite-based internet service developed by Elon Musk’s Space Company, SpaceX. It uses a network of low-earth classes (Leo) satellites to provide high-speed internet in areas where traditional broadband services are either poor or unavailable.

In countries such as the US, Starlink currently charges a cost of $ 80 (about 6,800 rupees) per month for its residential plans as well as a cost of a time for hardware kits $ 349 (about 29,700 rupees). There are also ROM plans friendly to travel starting at $ 50 (about Rs 4,200) with a separate compact kit for mobile use. If the description of leaked pricing for India is accurate, Starlinks can become a game-changer in the Indian Internet market, especially for users who have a lack of reliable broadband options for users in remote or underscore areas.
