The Dune film franchise brought us a new era of space opera films. Meanwhile, Dune: Prophecy is a series that will talk about several things taking place centuries before the current timeline, as seen in Denis Villeneuve entries.
The HBO Max show in question here is about two sisters, Valya and Tula Harkonnen, who form the Bene Gesserit, who are fighting a giant political regime in the series.
“Victory is celebrated in the light, but it is won in the darkness” is one of the profound dialogues seen in the recently released episode of Dune: Prophecy.
For those who don’t know, the Bene Gesserit are an incredibly powerful group that operates in the shadows.
In EP 1, we also hear Valya saying that the long and tiring war against thinking machines – the Butlerian Jihad – was won by the Atreides.
This also happens when she reveals that her great-grandfather abandoned the war, and when the Great War ended, all thinking machine technology was eliminated, labeling her family as cowards.
They were even “banished to a desolate world.”
All these events cause Valya to vow to take her revenge by creating a new family consisting only of women.
As Valya meets the first Mother Superior, Raquella Berto-Anirul, Valya has now become the second Mother Superior of the Sisterhood.
Soon, as the First Mother lies on her death bed, she gives Valya the task of protecting and strengthening the Sisterhood from “the sacred judgment brought about by the forces of tyrannical, unimaginable darkness.”
30 years later, and “116 years after the end of the Great Machine Wars, 10,148 years before the birth of Paul Atreides,” Valya is controlling the Brotherhood.
Princess Ynez’s arrival is being discussed by The Sisterhood, Valya, and Lord Constantine, who is the princess’s half-brother.
However, we also see a kind of romantic tension between Yanez and Kieran, the swordsman of the Imperial House.
We also get a look at truth-telling Kasha talking about her vision where she saw Yanez getting sucked by Tula and Valya by a sandworm, causing the sisters to talk about Yanez hooking up with another man. I thought whom she was going to marry.
The series also introduced us to the current Emperor Javico Corrino, who discussed issues on Arrakis with Desmond Hart.
Prepare yourself for the next episode which will bring us even more interesting scenes surrounding Valya, Tula, Javico and Desmond, with a few more characters set to join in soon.
Episode 2: Two Sides will be released on November 24, 2024.
Meanwhile, Episode 3: Sisterhood Above All will air on December 1, untitled episode 4 on December 8, episode 5 on December 15, and the final episode 6 on December 22.
