Pattinson is reportedly set to play the villain Scythe, while Duncan Idaho returns in the 2021 film despite the character’s death.

The same applies to Florence Pugh, whose character has had limited screen time so far despite her importance to the overall narrative. With Irulan’s marriage to Paul and Aliya’s transformation during the time jump, both characters are set to play a central role in the unfolding story.

The upcoming film is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah and takes place approximately 12 years after the events of Dune: Part Two.

By this time, Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, is firmly established as the Emperor. Director Denis Villeneuve returns to direct the third installment following the critical and commercial success of the previous two films.

The film is scheduled to hit the theaters on December 18.
