Dubai’s education authorities have decided to continue distance learning in all private institutions as a precautionary measure, extending this arrangement until the beginning of April. The move puts student safety at the center, while allowing limited flexibility for institutions in how they can justify a return to classrooms. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed that distance learning will remain in place for all private educational institutions in the Emirate of Dubai until Friday, April 3, 2026. The decision is in line with a broader announcement by the Education, Human Development and Communities Council, strengthening a coordinated approach across the region. In a statement shared on Twitter, KHDA said that all private institutions should continue with distance education during this period. The authority stressed that the measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students while maintaining continuity in education delivery in schools, colleges and other private educational institutions. Also, the KHDA has left room for institutions that may be in a position to resume on-site teaching. Any institution wishing to return to physical classes must submit a formal request to the authority. This request should clearly outline the specific circumstances behind the proposal and provide a detailed justification for reopening. Each application will be assessed individually rather than through a blanket approval process. KHDA said all such requests will be reviewed by the Ministry of Education, which will evaluate them in line with the approved rules and procedures already in place. The authority clarified that the safety and well-being of students, staff and the wider community will be the primary consideration in any decision taken by the ministry. This means that even well-prepared institutions will be allowed to reopen only if they meet the required safety standards and can demonstrate minimal risk. The expansion of distance learning, combined with a controlled approval process for any exceptions, reflects the cautious approach of Dubai’s education authorities as they balance continuity in learning with public health priorities.
