Four Muslim members of the Republican Party attended the GOP Texas convention last weekend, but were shown the door because ‘Don’t Sharia destroy Texas’ was discussed during a presentation at the convention. The outgoing GOP chairman, Indian-origin Abraham George, addressed two Muslim delegates from the stage and told them that there would be a Democrat convention in Texas soon – they could go there.“I would strongly advise you to leave our caucus,” George said. “There’s a Democrat convention coming up in a few weeks. Go to them.”Mohammed Hussein, whose family moved to Houston from Egypt in 1992, started crying when he was asked to leave the United States. “When they say Sharia-free, it means Muslim-free, no practice of Islam,” Hussain said in an interview with the Texas Tribune. “No one is calling for the state to impose Sharia law.”Former Southern Baptist pastor Dr. Rick Scarborough told the Texas Tribune that he actually told Hussein to leave the country. “If you’re going to embrace the values and teachings that you’re advocating, there is no place for you in America. This is not assimilation. This is taking over.”As Hussain began to cry, Scarborough said he realized he pushed him too hard and offered to pray with Hussain.Hussein’s father, Tarek Hussein, founded the CAIR Texas-Houston branch. Texas Governor Greg Abbott last year designated CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations with the goal of enforcing Sharia law and supporting terrorism around the world.Mohammad Hussain said that the conference stopped asking him questions. “How can I possibly follow a party that asks me to leave, that says convert or leave?” he asked. “How do they think this will be any kind of winning strategy?” The Abbott campaign declined to comment on the Hussain incident. It was also silent on George’s instruction to delegates to join the Democrats, the Texas Tribune reported.“A lot of people hear these things, these messages, and think they’re dog whistles,” Hussain said. “I expected to come here and get an explanation. What we got was a kind of confirmation.”
