Donald Trump urges tankers to ‘show some courage’ in Strait of Hormuz as oil prices rise

US President Donald Trump demanded that tanker crews sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, south of Iran, “show some courage” as global oil prices surged, saying there was “nothing to fear” following a joint US-Israeli campaign against the regime.Global oil prices rose to more than $100 a barrel early Monday amid fears of long-term disruption to energy supplies through the key Strait of Hormuz shipping route. About a fifth of the world’s oil normally passes through the narrow waterway, but shipping has been largely halted since the conflict began more than a week ago, Mediaite reports. The US-Israeli strikes against Iranian military installations resulted in attacks by Iran in the form of drones and rocket fire against neighboring oil and gas producing countries, some of which were locations of US military bases in the region.Fox News host Brian Kilmeade revealed on Fox & Friends on Monday that the president urged oil transportation companies to use the route to “get at him” because he argued that the Iranian regime’s ability to attack ships has been weakened. He said that during the call, he asked the president how he planned to “bring prices down”, then repeated Trump’s words:He says, ‘Tell these tankers to reach there themselves, reach there, we have destroyed most of their launchers.’ Here’s exactly what he said: ‘These ships should pass through the Strait of Hormuz and show some courage, there is nothing to fear. (The Iranians) have no navy, we sank all their ships.’He added: ‘Look, there is risk in the area, the area is unstable, their launchers, about 150 left, that’s about 20% of the total, they can’t revive, they can’t make more. We are in this area and we need to take immediate action against all such attacks. The co-host further explained that he believed the Trump administration was sending “some additional naval assets” to escort the tankers, but argued that a tanker traveled through the strait with “no problems” on Sunday.Summarizing Trump’s call, Kilmeade concluded: “He’s saying, ‘Come on, guys. Go ahead!'”
