Raja of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan has given some of the most prestigious films of Indian cinema, which earn a special place in our hearts. One such classic juggler is a film that is remembered. Now, the film’s writer Robin Bhatt shared that Shah Rukh Khan agreed to play the role only after rejecting Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. However, he laid the condition that he would only sign that the script remained unchanged.
In a chat with Friday Talkies, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt’s younger step brother Robin Bhatt shared an interesting memory. He received a call one day where he was asked if he had seen a kiss before the film died. Robin replied, saying that he had read the original novel and believed that he could definitely turn it into a film. He was then asked to write a screenplay, as the director wanted to dilute the Abbas-Mustan project. And similarly the rage came into life.
The Baazigar writer also faced a major casting challenge as it separated from the ideal with his courageous story, where the hero was really opposed. He recalled that after finishing the script, he struggled to find a prominent actor.
He first approached Akshay Kumar, who turned it down. Then he reached Salim Khan about Salman Khan, but he also refused. When Robin realized that only an actor would be very fearless to embrace such a gray character without other ideas, there is no one else but Budshah Shahrukh Khan.
Robin Bhatt further opened to meet Shah Rukh Khan at Hotel Villa, where both of them used to work often, seeing the actor’s unique mindset. Superstar Raju Ban Gaya will travel for seating related to Gentleman, while the author focused on his projects.
During these casual meetings, he understood that the king actor had a different way compared to others. While seizing the opportunity, Robin told him the story of Baazigar. Remandable, by the time they reached the interval point, SRK immediately agreed to be part of the film, even to listen to the second half.
He said that Shah Rukh Khan also put a strong condition on the filmmakers. He insisted, “I will film if only you leave the script as it is. You will not try and make the character right or make it gray.”
His bold attitude increased the confidence of the directors Abbas-Mustan, who decided to stick to the original point of view without any agreement. And the rest is history.
For The Anward, the film also starred in Shilpa Shetty, Kajol, Rakhi and Johnny Lever.
