Director Sathyan Anthikad leaves pen, touching note at Srinivasan’s funeral
Director Sathyan Anthikad paid tribute to Sreenivasan during his funeral with a special note and an iconic pen, reflecting the deep creative partnership between the two. The final ceremony was held with full state honours.

Director Sathyan Anthikad paid personal tribute to his longtime collaborator, actor-director, Sreenivasan by leaving a handwritten note and a pen near the actor’s body minutes before his funeral. The emotional gesture showcased the bond between the director and the late actor-screenwriter, whose partnership influenced Malayalam cinema for decades. Srinivasan died on 20 December after prolonged illness.
The note, written in Malayalam, which translates to, “May only good things happen for all,” was placed quietly next to Srinivasan. This simple message, written by Anthikad, with a pen that Srinivasan was very fond of, shows the depth of their friendship.
Srinivasan was cremated in Kannada, Kerala amid an outpouring of emotions from family, film fraternity and fans. The event was attended by thousands of people, including prominent figures from the political, cultural and cinematic communities.
Notable among those attending the funeral was the presence of director Sathyan Anthikad, who had directed 58 films, 16 of which were scripted by Sreenivasan. Their collaboration shaped many memorable films, and Srinivasan’s influence on Anthikad’s work extended to projects beyond their direct collaboration.
The last rites were performed with full state honours. Srinivasan’s son Vineet Srinivasan performed the last rites by lighting the funeral pyre, while his other son Dhyan Srinivasan paid silent tribute.
Sreenivasan’s legacy as an actor, screenwriter and voice of everyday struggles was acknowledged by many of the funeral attendees. His demise has left a void in Malayalam cinema and tributes are pouring in from across the industry.
