In short

  • Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Sardarji 3’ faced a new controversy
  • FWICE objected to the release of the film due to rumors by Pakistani actors
  • The film body wrote a letter to CBFC, requesting the film to refuse certifications.

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s Punjabi comedy ‘Sardarji 3’ was set to release on 27 June, but now, the film has landed in controversy. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has raised objections in which they have requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny certification to the film. The objection followed the speculation that Pakistani actors would be included in the film, including Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar and Salim Albela.

The line began after suggesting several reports at the beginning of the year, which Dosanj found Aamir to play an important role in ‘Sardarji 3’. The speculation was carried forward by a rear photo posted by Dosanz. In the photo, he was shown wearing a T-shirt, in which a woman’s face is partially visible. Many admitted that this was Aamir’s image, but Dosanz later clarified by posting a complete picture of the T-shirt, including experienced actor Mitchell Yeho.

Despite the explanation, FWICE is stuck on its stance. They call it a matter of national importance. In a letter written to CBFC, the film body mentioned that recent government advisors, filmmakers not to work with Pakistani artists.

In a letter to CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, FWIC said, “In the light of the recent instructions issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Ministry of I&B), in the light of Pakistani-origin content and cooperation with Pakistani artists in Indian products, and parallel stance with Fawar, which work with CBFC and confidence. Will consider the request (SIC) properly.

This is not the first time Fwice has stepped into. A few days after the attack of Pahalgam terror in April, he implemented a blanket boycott on ‘Abir Gulal’, a Hindi film, which marks Fawad Khan’s return to Indian cinema after nine years. Wani Kapoor also had a film to be released on 9 May in the film.

‘Sardarji 3’ is the second Dosanj film to face such an investigation. His earlier project, ‘Punjab 95’ – Based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalara, also faced obstacles in certification.

Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanj is still appreciated for his strong performance in ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, a film directed by Imtiaz Ali released last year.
