Diljit Dosanjh reacts to fan’s green card question amid US citizenship discussion
Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh on Monday reacted when a fan asked him about getting a green card amid reports of his US citizenship. He also opened up about his latest film Sutlej, its surprise ZEE5 release and the years of delay it caused.
Amid reports claiming that he has become a US citizen, actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh on Monday responded to a fan’s question about getting a green card. During a recent live interaction he reacted with humor but did not directly confirm or deny the claim.
In the same live session, the 42-year-old also answered questions about his latest film Satluj And why was it released on ZEE5 instead of theaters or any other streaming platform.

During the conversation, Diljit said, “I will take a card and color it green. I am not saying anything. Leaving everything aside, this will become news. It is not possible for this to happen; This will never happen. The drama in the world will never end, but I say it all… Everyone should be allowed to visit any country without a visa. Let the whole world become one. I’m fine, but that’s not possible, right? (sic)”
Earlier, a report from Indian Express He had said that Diljit had acquired US citizenship in 2022, since then he was traveling on a US passport and had entered India on an e-Visa from September 2022. The report also said that he has not publicly talked about renouncing Indian citizenship or taking up US nationality.

He said that there were many things that he wanted to say but could not. He thanked the audience for their support and said that he has seen the videos, edits and posts shared by fans on social media.
Reflecting on the real-life events behind the film, Diljit said that the incident took place in 1995, when people were reportedly not allowed to speak about it. He said that the same situation is still continuing and described it as extremely disturbing. He also said that he is sad that very little has changed in 2026.
Diljit also talked about the delays the project has faced over the years. He said that the shooting of the film was stalled for 10 to 15 years. He said that it took another year and a half for production to begin and that the project remained stuck for four years after editing. Diljit said that he was associated with the film for two years, while director Honey Trehan took six years to bring it to life.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj Earlier it was titled Punjab ’95. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the alleged cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022, but did not receive the clearance certificate. The filmmakers had earlier alleged that the CBFC had demanded 127 cuts.
The film was also scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, but the screening was reportedly canceled after Indian authorities raised objections. After years of delay, Sutlej finally premiered on ZEE5 on July 3 without any promotional campaign. However, two days later it was removed from the platform without any prior notice. ZEE5 later said that it stood by the film and its creative vision, but also added that, “in view of current developments,” the film will not be available in India until further notice.
Apart from Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan also play important roles in the film.
