This may come as a pleasant surprise for fans of the Marvel franchise. Actor Karan Soni’s Deadpool character, Dopinder’s name, is actually based on lead actor Ryan Reynolds’ childhood friend. The actor had previously revealed this interesting fact during a ‘Talks at Google’ session.

“Dopinder, the name comes from a friend of mine from elementary school. I went to school with this guy named Dopinder, and we’re paying tribute to him. He was murdered. He was struck by lightning, which is just crazy. Dopinder is a tribute to this guy. He was a really nice guy. It was a lot more information than you would want,” Reynolds said at the time.

Dopinder has become a fan favorite after being introduced in the original Deadpool film as an Indian cab driver who takes Deadpool to his destination without charging him much. In fact, at one point, Reynolds said that Deadpool only paid Dopinder with a “crunchy high-five.”

Deadpool 3, aka Deadpool and Wolverine, released in theaters this July and received both critical and commercial acclaim.

Apart from Ryan Reynolds and Karan Soni, the film also stars Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Chris Evans and Wesley Snipes in pivotal roles.
