Halle Berry has no problem calling Hollywood “sh**” as she responded to X-Men director Matthew Vaughn’s claim. After being a part of the successful franchise, Vaughn’s decision to step down from his directorial post ahead of the third installment of X-Men was a shocking one. However, his moral and ethical obligations forced him to resign.
As The Daily Mail reports, Vaughn claimed that the Catwoman actress was sent a fake script that included an expanded storyline for her character to entice her to say yes. The director claimed, “I thought, if you’re going to do this with an Oscar-winning actress playing Storm, I left.” He said, “I thought, I’m an idiot… One of the main reasons I left X-Men 3, and it’s a true story: Hollywood is really political and weird.”
Recently, Berry responded to Vaughn’s claims and thanked her for exposing the shady goings-on in Hollywood. “Yeah, you never know what’s going on behind you!” he wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “Thank you Matthew Vaughn for bringing the darkness into the light,” he said.
However, the John Wick actress went on to star in X-Men 3, where she starred alongside Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Eliot Page, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Fame Janssen, and many others. Following Vaughn’s resignation, the film was directed by director Brett Ratner and grossed over $460 million at the global box office.
The actress recently starred in the horror suspense film Never Let Go, where she played the role of a mother of two sons who seeks survival against an evil force. According to the official logline, the film is “about a family that has been possessed by an evil spirit for years.” Their safety and the environment around them comes into question when one of the children questions whether this evil is real.”
Never Let Go premieres in theaters on September 20 and begins digital streaming on Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ on October 11.
