Rajpal Yadav had sought interim bail to attend his niece’s wedding.

The actor has sought interim bail to attend his niece’s wedding to be held on February 19.

During the hearing, Yadav’s counsel informed the court that a reply has been filed in the case, although it is not on record yet. The matter was passed over briefly and is expected to be taken up again eventually by the board.

Complainant says actor failed to honor agreement despite mediation

The proceedings pertain to a check bounce case in which Yadav had challenged his punishment order. According to the complainant’s lawyer Avneet Singh Sikka, the actor had signed seven cheques, each amounting to Rs 1.5 crore. Following the dishonor of cheques, Yadav was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in each case and fined Rs 1.35 crore per cheque.

The complainant’s lawyer further said that Yadav neither paid the fine nor was successful in getting his sentence suspended. The High Court had earlier found no merit in his plea to suspend the sentence. It also said that in 2024, Yadav proposed a settlement through mediation but allegedly did not pay the dues.

The lawyer said Yadav had filed several applications before the court of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma seeking time for payment and had deposited Rs 75 lakh. However, after he failed to pay the remaining amount, the court on 2 February gave him two days to surrender. He reportedly did not surrender within the given time and instead filed another application seeking extension.
