Decoding the success of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise
Pushpa 2 fever is spreading like wildfire. Ahead of the film’s grand theatrical release on December 5, we take a look at what made the first installment of Allu Arjun’s film work and how it became the blockbuster it is today.

Allu Arjun and director Sukumar’s much-awaited film Pushpa 2: The Rule will release in theaters globally on December 5. The buzz around the release of the film is clear. With the release of Pushpa 2 around the corner, let’s revisit why Pushpa became a brand and how Allu Arjun became a pan India star with the film.
When Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s Pushpa: The Rise released in 2021, it was not expected that the film would become so popular in the country. Not just in India, Pushpa garnered a fan following globally and the Allu Arjun-starrer collected nearly Rs 400 crore at the box office, of which Rs 74 crore was earned on the day of its release itself.
The vivid dialogues and catchphrases of the film – “Pushp Ante Pushp Anuktiv? flower bitter, fire” And “thugged take“- spread like fire. Arjun, fondly known as Bunny, played the role of Pushp Raj with a lot of style and swag. With the versatile Fahadh Faasil on board, Samantha performed the viral dance numbers Ooo Aanatva and With Rashmika Mandanna’s Srivalli being the perfect flower for Pushpa’s fire, Pushpa: The Rise went on to become a global blockbuster.
Pushpa 1’s stellar performance and audience reception in the Hindi belt took everyone by surprise, which acted as a catalyst in boosting the box office numbers massively in the northern region. Neither the actors nor the filmmaker expected the success of the action film. Due to the film’s release in Bihar, the makers released the trailer of Pushpa 2 in Patna.

Another factor that aided in the huge success of Pushpa was how Allu Arjun completely abandoned his boy-next-door image, left behind infectious charm and embraced the raw and rustic, with his excellent dancing. Kept the skill alive, but with a twist (thanks to the physicality he had to embrace for the character).
During the promotions of Pushpa 1, the down-to-earth Arjun said, “I am yet to become a pan-India star. But all I can say is that I need to explore more and as far as my performance is concerned, The question is, I want to push the boundaries.”
He truly pushed the boundaries and got the seal of approval in the form of a National Film Award for his performance in the film.
Apart from Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2: The Rule also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Sunil, Anasuya Bhardwaj in lead roles. Directed by Sukumar and backed by Mythri Movie Makers, the music of Pushpa 2 is composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
