Actor Rajkumar Rao is all set to play cricketer Sourav Ganguly in his upcoming biopic. Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story. The actor shared the first picture from the set on social media and announced that the shooting of the film has officially started.

Rajkumar shared two pictures on his Instagram handle. The first slide showed a clapboard with the film’s title – Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story. The second slide showed a picture of the “Sourav Ganguly Stand” at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Director Vikramaditya Motwane also shared the second photo on Instagram.

Sharing the Instagram carousel, the first photo captioned the film, “And it begins… the one and only #grandfather.” Rajkumar, in an earlier interview ndtv Had said, “Now that Dada has said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing his character in his biopic.”

The actor admitted that he was “extremely nervous” about playing the role of the iconic cricketer, but is equally excited about the opportunity. “I’m nervous…it’s a big responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.

In February 2025, during a media interaction in Bardhaman, Sourav Ganguly had said, “As I hear, Rajkummar Rao will play this role (the titular role), but there are date issues, so it will take more than a year to hit the screens.”

On the professional front, Rajkumar’s unique comedy, toasterIt is set to release on Netflix on April 14, 2026, starring actor Sanya Malhotra. Directed by Vivek Das Choudhary and produced by Patralekha, toaster Archana brings together a vibrant ensemble including Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jeetendra Joshi and Seema Pahwa.

Rajkumar’s last theatrical release was the crime-drama, Owner (2025), starring actors Manushi Chhillar and Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead roles.
