‘Cricket helped me catch her’: Indian-origin man saves 3-year-old girl falling from London window world News

A three-year-old girl has been rescued after hanging from the ledge of a building window in east London for at least nine minutes, with a police officer and a member of the public catching her as she fell. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon on Ilford High Road, where bystanders spotted the child clinging to a window above a pawnbroker’s shop and raised the alarm. The footage shared on social media shows a crowd gathering below as the girl struggles to hold herself. A woman could be seen climbing out of a low window while onlookers screamed for help.As the girl’s grip weakened, a police officer positioned himself on a ledge below her. Shortly afterwards, local resident Mohammad Jesil climbed onto nearby rooftops and joined the rescue effort. The pair went straight down to the girl before she lost her grip and fell. Jessel held him while the officer helped steady him, while spectators cheered from the street below.Jesil, a restaurant manager and father of five-month-old twins, later said he rushed to the scene after hearing the noise. He told The Metro: “I ran away on instinct. I’m a father of five-month-old twins, and as a father I just reacted.“I wasn’t scared, I didn’t think. I’m not a hero, I just did it as a father who saw a kid in trouble.”Describing the moments after the rescue, he said there was “massive relief” and that the girl responded by giving him “a big hug”.Jesil also credited his sporting background for helping him in taking catches, saying, “I have played cricket in India, so that might have helped me in taking catches. I just knew I had to focus.”The girl’s father described the officer and Jessil as “amazing heroes” and said his daughter escaped injury.“They were both wonderful. They were heroes. We are very relieved,” he said. “They saved our baby.”He said the girl is recovering and is expected to return to school the next day.The father said that Jessel was a “complete stranger” to the family and expressed gratitude for his actions. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Ilford High Road shortly after 3.20pm after reports of a child on a windowsill.According to the force, the girl was brought to safety within minutes by an attending officer and a member of the public.Police said that the child was not injured.
