Cloud vs Grok: Which AI Code is Best? Elon Musk says it won’t matter soon
Tech billionaire Elon Musk claims that soon, coding agents will become so reliable that it won’t matter which agent you used, whether it’s Grok Code, or Anthropic’s Cloud Code, or perhaps something else.

AI is getting better at coding. In recent weeks, fears have been expressed that the era of humans writing code manually is over, something NodeJS creator Ryan Dahl has also said. The Internet is already debating which coding agent might be better, whether it’s Anthropic’s Cloud Code or Elon Musk’s Grok Code. But according to Musk, this question won’t matter, because coding is soon going to become a more common product.

On XAI, Elon Musk replied to a post discussing his plans for XAI’s own coding agent, Grok Code. “Coding will become a common product this year,” the tech billionaire said.
And we are already seeing signs of this. Anthropic previously said that its Cloud Opus 4.6 model built a C-compiler on its own within two weeks, a major accomplishment considering how complex the task was.
Elon Musk says there will hardly be anything wrong with the coding model
In a separate post, Elon Musk stressed that while the Grok code was going to be much better, and potentially even outperform the cloud code in the coming months, the differences between the two could be minor.
“It would be hard to tell the difference between the major coding models, because they would rarely get anything wrong,” he wrote.
Musk’s comments indicate that AI coding agents will become so reliable in the coming months that it won’t matter which agent you used. Rather, coding itself will be treated as a commoditized, common service, similar to how self-driving technology may be perfected over time.
Elon Musk claims you don’t need to bother to code
This is not the first time Musk has expressed his views on the future of coding. Earlier this year, the SpaceX boss said, “By the end of this year you won’t even bother coding – AI creates binary straight away”.
According to Elon, this would allow coders to “bypass even traditional coding”, as AI would be more effective than the traditional compilers needed to translate information into binary for machines.
Musk’s comments come at a time when companies like Spotify have said that AI is doing most of the work when it comes to coding. Even Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has admitted that his startup won’t need as many software engineers in the future.
