While some posts poked fun at the film through memes and references to the 57-year-old actor’s previous roles, others called it promotional and criticized its tone.

ChauhanDescribed by its makers as a Kashmir-based mass entertainer, the film is billed as Devgn’s return to the larger-than-life action arena. However, online reaction quickly became divided.

A user on X compared it with Devgan’s dialogue Singham Again And wrote, “Ajay Devgan gets youth. Singham Again In 2024. Throwing stones is old fashioned sir, this is the new Kashmir of new India, we all are with you (Stone throwing is an old trend sir, this is the new Kashmir of new India and we all stand with you). A third user posted, “#Chauhan Pathetic teaser. Giving a glimpse of a typical South Masala film. Pooja’s teaser went out in slow motion (the entire teaser went out in slow motion). #AjayDevgn is too old to play such roles now.”

Some of the reactions even brought actor Salman Khan into the conversation. One user wrote, “#after”Chauhan My respect for Salman Khan has increased even more with the announcement. Delivering a 15+ blockbuster without promotion, corporate booking, Deepika or adult content is almost impossible in today’s era. That’s why he is India’s biggest superstar! (sic)”

At the same time, a section of the audience defended Devgan and said that the film looks promising. One user wrote, “Chauhan The trailer looks good. Ajay Devgan is doing a big film after a long time and the background of the story seems like stone pelting which happens often. He has always been a people’s hero, it’s just that today’s directors focus only on their non-commercial things. The biggest crowd is getting ready for the comeback and this time it is going to be very big.

Another supporter wrote, “The happiest people on planet earth today are Ajay Devgan fans. After years of patience, waiting and watching our favorite hero do mediocre movies and sequels, he is finally back to where he belongs – action, drama and intensity. That anger in his eyes is worth seeing once again.”

The supporter also pointed out that Devgan’s fans criticized him for his choices and not utilizing his full potential. He added, “It’s great to see that he finally listened to his fans. OG action star (sic).”

More about the first look

The makers unveiled the first look on Instagram on the birth anniversary of late action choreographer and Devgan’s father Veeru Devgan.

Devgan is shown in a tremendous action avatar in the video. It begins with a monologue about the conflict, referring to 75 years, heavy military deployments and temporary solutions that have failed to end the unrest in Kashmir. Then it turns into a warning before ending with the line, “Tell the Pathans that Chauhan is coming (Tell the Pathans that Chauhan is coming).)”

Chauhan is also Ajay Devgan’s first collaboration with Aanand L Rai. Presented by Jio Studios and Color Yellow Productions, the film is directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. It is scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
