Although he didn’t mention Ballerini by name, his posts directly reference recent attention to news of their separation and the fact that the two no longer follow each other on Instagram.
“Don’t believe the media. I’ve been blocked, I’ve done nothing wrong,” Stokes wrote. He further wrote, “Sorry I tried.”
In another slide, the ‘Outer Banks’ star added, “I’m sorry to the people who believed in us.”
The posts mark Stokes’ first major reaction to the breakup, which was previously reported by People, which cited a representative for Ballerini who confirmed the pair had ended their three-year relationship. No reason was given for the split.
Stokes had previously made a brief comment about the situation on TikTok, responding to fan speculation under a video of Ballerini.
“These comments are so weird. Grow up,” he wrote at the time.
Neither Ballerini nor Stokes have directly addressed the breakup publicly, other than a statement from People’s rep: “They’re two adults who gave it their all and tried everything they could to make it work, but ultimately couldn’t. It happens.”
Despite their separation, the pair sparked reconciliation rumors when they were reportedly seen “holding hands” at a restaurant in Dubrovnik, Croatia on November 7, according to an onlooker cited in a separate report. Neither the singers nor their teams have confirmed whether they have rekindled their romance.
