Central drug laboratories identified 47 drug samples “not of standard quality” (NSQ) in February, while State Labs 56 was found. A spontaneous medicine from West Bengal is under investigation. Officers continue to monitor the removal of inferior drugs.

The prices of controlled category drugs are expected to experience a 1.7% increase.
The center found 47 drug samples manufactured by various firms “not of standard quality (NSQ)”.

In its monthly drug alert for February, 47 drug samples made by various firms in central drug laboratories “not of standard quality (NSQ)” said by officials of the Ministry of Health on Friday.

In addition, state drugs testing laboratories have identified 56 drug samples as NSQ, he said.

According to the regular regulatory monitoring activity, the list of NSQ drugs is displayed on the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) portal every month.

Officials said that drug samples as NSQ are identified based on the failure of the sample of the drug in one or other specified quality parameters.

An official said the failure is specific to the pharmaceutical products of batch tested by the government laboratory and does not warrant any concern about other drug products available in the market.

In February 2024, a drug sample from West Bengal was identified by unauthorized manufacturer using the brand name owned by another company. The case is subject to investigation and action.

He said that this action to identify NSQ, Missbranded and Sprius drugs is regularly taken in collaboration with state regulators to ensure that these drugs are identified and removed from the market.
