Cardi B, Ellen DeGeneres, others react to Biden’s withdrawal from presidential race

US President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential campaign has also drawn reactions from members of the Hollywood fraternity.

On X, actor, singer, and director Barbra Streisand wrote a post in support of Biden.

He described Biden as “a man who has made significant accomplishments.”

“Joe Biden will go down in history as someone who made significant achievements during his 4-year term. We should be grateful to him for upholding our democracy,” Barbara wrote on X.

On Sunday, Biden announced that he was not seeking re-election in the “best interest” of the Democratic Party and the country. He endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate and called on Democrats to “come together and defeat Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump”.

Comedian and TV host, Ellen DeGeneres also reacted to the news and shared on her official Instagram account, “I am so grateful to President Biden for everything he has done.”

According to Variety, Oscar winner and Billie Eilish’s brother and song-writing collaborator Finneas posted a photo of his family standing with the president and wrote, “I see today a man who puts people before himself and his pride, and for that I have so much respect for him.”

Singer Lizzo posted a screenshot of the news, commenting, “We are truly living in unprecedented times.”

“Thank you to President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden for your leadership, integrity, empathy, and service to our country,” Jimmy Kimmel wrote on social media.

The comedian also shared a photo of Biden with First Lady Jill Biden on his Instagram.

On Instagram, singer Ariana Grande reposted Biden’s post in which he endorsed Harris as his replacement in the upcoming presidential election.

Cardi B also quickly offered her support to Harris.

“The Bear” and “Borderlands” star Jamie Lee Curtis praised Harris online, writing, “She is trusted and a proven and strong advocate for the rights of women and people of color, and her message is one of hope and unity for America at a time of great national division.”

Avenger, actor and activist Mark Ruffalo talked about next steps and gave his followers “marching orders.” “No to Trump/Vance. No to a right wing Christian takeover of our country. Nothing wrong with Christianity, just not running a country born out of freedom of religion.”

‘Veep’ star and Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who played Vice President-turned-President Selina Meyer) showed her support for Biden and thanked him for his service.

It is noteworthy that Biden is isolating at his home in Delaware after testing positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

His announcement to withdraw from the next presidential race comes amid growing pressure from Democrats following his inconsistent performance in a nationally televised debate with former US President Donald Trump on June 27.
