Canada alleges that India is "Intentions, capacity" To intervene in elections

On Monday, Canada’s detective service said that India and China are likely to try to intervene in their upcoming general election, which came between their deteriorating relations with the two countries.

Addressing a press conference on “protection measures” for the 28 April SNAP election, Vanessa Lloyd, Deputy Director of Operations at Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), said that “hostile state actor” was rapidly taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence, which was declared by the new Prime Minister, Mark Karni on Sunday.

He said, “PRC (People’s Republic of China) is highly likely to use AI-competent equipment to interfere with Canada’s democratic process in this current election,” she said.

Ms. Lloyd said that China has also “extremely probable” to move to social media to promote stories friendly to her interests – and especially using misleading means to target Chinese ethnic, cultural and religious communities in Canada, said Ms. Lloyd.

He said, “We have also seen that the Government of India has the intention and ability to interfere in Canadian communities and democratic processes that have to claim its geopolitical impact.”

The two countries, who have denied previous allegations of intervention, have not said anything about new allegations so far.

Ms. Lloyd also said that Russia has tried to create “Prasar Network” in social media and news websites that increase the Kremlin Talking Points.

“It is possible that Russia will use these online networks to operate on Canadians directed on Canadians to operate it opportunistic for manipulation and intervention operations,” he said.

He also alleged that Pakistan could conduct foreign intervention activities against Canada “in accordance with its strategic objectives”.

Canada-India Relations

Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reduced tension between India and Canada since September 2023.

India dismissed the charge as “absurd”.

The line deepened after expelting six Canadian diplomats of Canada and Canada recalled Ottawa after trying to question Indian authorities as “individuals of interest” in a private case.

Canada’s relations with China have also deteriorated in recent years. This month Beijing announced tariffs at a price of more than $ 2.6 billion of Canadian agriculture and food products worth more than $ 2.6 billion against Levi Ottawa slapped on Chinese electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products last year.
