In short

  • BSNL launched Dorster SIM delivery through online portal
  • Users must complete KYC with OTP and self-satisfaction
  • BSNL has not yet clarified whether its home delivery will be free or not

With the aim of simplifying mobile connectivity and improving user facilities, Bharat Scholar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new doorstep SIM card delivery service. The state -owned telecom provider has launched an online portal, through which customers can request a new SIM, prepaid or postpaid, eliminating the need to go to a retail store directly to their home.

The launch BSNL corresponds to private sector rivals such as Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea (VI), all of which already offer similar doorstep services. However, BSNL has not yet clarified that its home delivery will be free, as it is with three private telecom operators.

BSNL SIM Card Home delivery: how to apply

To use the new service, users need to go to the dedicated portal of BSNL and select the existing number with a fresh number or from another network provider between getting a new SIM card. It marks an effort to attract new customers by BSNL, while other network also gives existing users a simple way to switch.

This process begins with KYC (knowing your customer) with filling a basic customer registration form for verification. Applicants need to submit their PIN code, full name and an alternative mobile number. After entering these details, the system sends a one -time password (OTP) to an alternative number to confirm the request. A self-KYC step is also mandatory before the SIM is released and distributed.

BSNL is losing customers

The introduction of this service comes at an important time for BSNL, which continues to face challenges in maintaining its customer base. According to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), BSNL lost 0.2 million overall customers and 1.8 million active customers in April alone. The company also reported the lowest visitor’s place register (VLR) ratio among major telecom players, only 61.4 percent, a major metric that shows how many users are actively using the network.

By bringing in doorstep delivery, BSNL is expecting to make the onboarding process more comfortable, especially for users in rural or semi-urban areas where access to physical stores may be limited. Users can always inquire and take help about customer care from service.

While the BSNL initiative is a step in the right direction, its success will probably depend on how efficiently the distribution and verification process is handled, and whether the service can match the speed and reliability given by its private field counterparts. With increasing competition and consumer expectations, the latest step of BSNL is both time and necessary as it wants to regain traction in India’s fierce competitive telecommunications market.
