Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg admits there was ‘hesitation’ as he opens up about ‘unexpected role’ in Lee alongside Kate Winslet

Brooklyn Nine Nine star Andy Samberg plays a photojournalist in the upcoming World War II film, Lee. The actor will star alongside Kate Winslet, who will play Lee Miller, a war photographer.

For Samberg’s fans, it will be a treat to see the actor playing a role outside his favourite genre, comedy. For eight years, the actor has been a part of popular sitcoms and has made audiences laugh a lot with his sketches on SNL, and hence, while agreeing to the character, Samberg claimed he was initially hesitant.

Ahead of the film’s release, the Palm Springs actor spoke with Digital Spy where he shared details about his role in the film and how Winslet bullied the Hollywood star into taking the role.

Speaking about his role, Samberg said, “There was a lot of hesitation.” He added, “I heard Kate Winslet was interested in playing me in her movie, so I said yes right away.”

Samberg will play David Sherman, and in order to get the actor to take on the role, the Titanic actress personally spoke with the comedian, claiming he closely resembles the man his character is based on.

The actor recalled, “He had approached me, and I honestly think he said, ‘I think you look like the real guy, David Sherman’, and he had enjoyed some of my work with his kids, and so we read together.” However, Samberg was still “a little nervous” during the opening day of shooting, and joked, “I didn’t want to ruin the movie; that was my thing.”

Winslet pushed the actor to take the role, as the former SNL cast member said, “But we worked together, and[Winslet]said, ‘You’d be great. I want you to do this. They want you to do this.’ So I did it. I thought, When will I ever get a chance to work with them and on something like this again?

As far as the film is concerned, it is the story of a fashion model who becomes a war photographer for Vogue magazine.

As far as the plot goes, the synopsis for the film reads, “The story of photographer Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, who was a fashion model and became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.”

Lee will be released in cinemas worldwide on September 13.
