Tamil actor Chian Vikram’s latest release, Veera Dhara Sorran Part 2, has finally hit theaters after a long wait, but the journey has not been an easy. The film was caught in a legitimate confusion with Financer B4U on OTT rights, causing the morning show and Matini to cancel in almost all areas. The film made it only on a heavy screen by evening, which led to an important prime-time inauguration. This unpredictable shock had a direct impact on its box office numbers, hoping for explosive opening fans at the beginning.
To make things more challenging, Veera Dhara Soron Part 2 arrived as L2 Emapuran on the same day, which is on a record-breaking spree, already crossing ₹ 100 crore worldwide in just two days. In contrast, Vikram’s film was successful in only ₹ 3.85 crore gross watch on day 1 and saw a little dip of ₹ 3.5 crore on the second day. Interestingly, critics and audiences have given Veera Dhara Soran Part 2 highly positive review. Some have given more ratings than L2 Empuraan. Nevertheless, strong content alone does not guarantee box office success, but time, marketing and strategic releases play a big role. Although Vikram’s star power is undisputed, the minimum promotion of the film has worked against it.
Vikram’s last major commercial success was Mani Ratnam’s Ponyin Selvan: Part 2, which put impressive from box office around the world and put 350 crores together. But his recent outing such as acclaimed Thanglan failed to convert significant praise into box office numbers as he never made it in a big club. Now, Veera Dheer Sorran Part 2 finds himself in a similar struggle despite a good review and significant praise from the audience. The collections of the film are not reflecting the appreciation that it has received.
With the weekend of further holiday, Veera Dhara Sorran has a chance to take speed, but industry experts estimate that it cannot go beyond 20–30 crores, in its full run by current walk-in in theaters. For an actor of Vikram’s caliber, this is contrary to his ability. The film acts as a reminder that whenever the release strategy is not aligned with the market pulse, the strong material can still slip through the crack.
Can it be a surprisingly pull the turnaround, it remains to be seen, but for now, Veera Dhara Soron Part 2 is fighting a difficult battle at the box office.
