Thunderbolts of Marvel Studios have officially topped the US box office, which is an important milestone in the Memorial Day weekend. With the current domestic clan of US $ 171.4 million, the encerted superhero film has crossed the USD 164.9 million lifetime gross of earnerts despite a noticeable decline in the theater count and fierce competition from the new release.
Now marketed as new Avengers after a post-credit revelation, Thunderbolts earned USD 9.2 million in their fourth 3-day weekend. Florence Pugh -led action film fell by 44.8 percent since last weekend, on Friday a crowded summer box office with a loss of 780 theaters. At the end of the next week, the film is expected to overtake Captain America of America: The First Avenger and Thor, which earned 176.7 million and 181 million USD respectively, leading to its success among the early MCU titles.
Despite the strong run, the film is unlikely to hit the iconic USD 200 million domestic scars, but appears closed in the last American clan around 195 million. Globally, Thunderbolts have already earned a $ 355 million, making it the fifth largest gross film of 2025.
Directed by Jake Shreyer and written by Eric Piercene and Joana Cao, Thunderbolts were released on May 2 in the US as the final entry in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Star-stoded artists include Sebstian Stan, David Harbor, Vuat Russell, Olga Kurilenko, Hannah John-Camen, Julia Louis-Drapus, and more with Pugh, which paint an anti-forced antiho team that can lead to their re-recitation.
2023 Hollywood labor strikes led to a delay in production of thunderbolts, causing some creative and casting changes. Filming eventually took place from February to June 2024 in Atlanta, Utah and Kuala Lumpur.
The film’s premiere took place in London before the release of the US on 22 April and received a positive reviews for its amazing emotional core, grounded tone, and of course, the performance of the artists. Title in the title – originally mysterious – was manifested to stand up to the new Avengers, reflecting the team’s rebranding until the end of the film. Marvel Studio has since shifted its promotional strategy accordingly.
As Thunderbolts continue their run, it stands both as an important point for a commercial success and the future story of MCU.
