Christopher Nolan’s much-loved sci-fi epic Interstellar is set for a grand re-release in India on February 7 along with two much-awaited Hindi films – Badmaash Ravikumar and Lavayapa. Although all three films will have the same release date, each film will be aimed at different audiences, meaning their box office performance is unlikely to impact each other.
The re-release of Interstellar is targeting a loyal following, largely comprised of Nolan fans and sci-fi enthusiasts, ensuring a solid presence for the film in theaters. The film’s return to the IMAX format adds another layer of excitement, making fans eager to experience its breathtaking visuals and intense themes once again. Note: Despite the release date being 20 days away, advance booking of the film has started.
While the bad guys Ravikumar and Lavayapa are set to attract mainstream audiences with their action-packed sequences and romantic themes, Interstellar will appeal to a more intellectual crowd looking for a broader cinematic experience. In terms of box office expectations, the latter film is not expected to gross record numbers, but it is certainly projected to perform consistently, bringing the film’s global re-release total to $24.5 million.
During its original box office run in 2014, the film grossed $188 million domestically and $681 million worldwide.
The logline for Interstellar reads, “When Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, Joseph Cooper, a farmer and former NASA pilot, along with a team of researchers, sets out on a space mission to find a new planet for humans. The task of driving the vehicle is entrusted.”
Badmaash Ravikumar, is a Hindi-language musical film directed by Keith Gomes and produced by Himesh Reshammiya Melodies. It serves as a spin-off of the 2014 film The Xpose, with Reshammiya reprising his lead role. The film also stars Prabhu Deva, Kirti Kulhari, Sonia Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever and Saurabh Sachdeva.
Loveyapa, a much talked about film, stars late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughter Khushi Kapoor and Aamir Khan’s elder son Junaid Khan. Directed by Advait Chandan (Lal Singh Chaddha), the film promises a modern romance that explores love, choice and everything in between.
