Hollywood releases Gladiator 2 and Red One took the box office by storm with impressive opening weekends. While the Ridley Scott film set a new record overseas, the Christmas action comedy took a strong opening at the domestic box office.
Gladiator 2 becomes Ridley Scott’s highest-grossing film on opening weekend internationally
Ridley Scott’s epic historical action drama Gladiator 2, starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Denzel Washington and others, performed very well over its extended five-day opening weekend. The film grossed over US$87 million in foreign markets and became Ridley Scott’s highest opening weekend grosser to date.
The UK and France contributed the most with US$11.4 million and US$10.3 million respectively, while Spain and Australia each collected about US$5 million. Mexico, Germany, Italy, Korea, and Brazil collectively grossed over US$19 million.
Red One opens with an impressive US$34 million in its opening weekend in the US
The Red One, directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, is doing very well at the box office. The film was released in the domestic market this weekend, a week before its international release.
The Christmas action comedy debuted with an impressive US$34.1 million in US markets during its three-day opening weekend, while its total global gross reached US$84.1 million by the end of the second weekend.
Even after the release of Gladiator 2, Red One remained strong at the international box office and grossed approximately US$14.7 million in its second weekend, taking its overseas collection to US$50 million in 12 days of release. For those unaware, this is a streaming-turned-theatrical film for which collecting anything in the theater is just extra cash.
