Border 2 collected approximately US$4.10 million (₹37.50 crore) from overseas markets during its first week. Combined with Rs. 247.50 crores from domestic market, worldwide gross is Rs. Approximately 285 crores. The first week is better than Gadar 2, which collected US$3.75 million in its first week. This included US$475K from the Middle East, where Border 2 missed release. In the same group of markets, Border 2 is up about 25 percent.
The Sunny Deol starrer has performed well overseas, although like India, it seemed to perform better during the weekend, but the business dropped slightly on weekdays. Australia and Canada led the way in performance with AUD 1.43 million and CAD 1.13 million respectively. The first week in Australia was around US$10 million, while in Canada it was around US$7–8 million. Canada could have also been at the level of Australia, but due to weather related problems it suffered a loss in business on Sunday-Tuesday. There was some benefit of holidays in Australia, but in general, both of these foreign countries are large Punjabi diaspora centres; The presence of Diljit Dosanjh added charm to the film.
In terms of expectations, the film’s performance abroad can be said to be better than India. As an Indo-Pak war film, it naturally does not receive patronage from the Pakistani and Bangladeshi diaspora. Historically, the foreign market for this genre of Indian nationalist cinema was relatively limited, as the Pakistani diaspora once constituted a significant portion of foreign audiences. However, over the past few years, the market has improved with the influx of new people from India, especially to markets like Canada and Australia.
As of EOD Sunday, Borders 2 will cost around US$5.25 million. It is poised to close at around US$6.50 million; With better legs, it could reach closer to US$7 million. For the record, Gadar 2 grossed US$6.88 million overseas, of which US$840K came from the Middle East.
