Border 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty’s film did good business on the first day, sold 22 thousand tickets in national chains

Borderlands 2 had a good first day yesterday, with 22,000 tickets sold across two national chains (PVRINOX and Cinepolis) for its opening day. Sales outside the national chains are also good, with non-national chains like Rajhans Cinema selling around 1,200 tickets. Ticket booking portal, BookMyShow, is reporting over 50K sales so far, which includes sales not only on the opening day but the entire weekend and across all series.

Overall, the Sunny Deol-led War film starring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty has collected around Rs. Net sales of Rs 1.50 crore on the first day.

While these are obviously good numbers, the early rush seems to be a little better than that. The film is now seeing 150-175K final sales in national chains and around Rs. Will aim at. Net advance of Rs 10-12 crore for the first day. In comparison, Gadar 2 sold 275K tickets across national chains and collected Rs. Overall net advance of Rs 15 crore for the first day. Borderlands 2 has the advantage of blockbuster pricing, which Gadar 2 missed.

Gadar opened at Rs 2. Earning ₹39 crore on the first day, while capacity was limited due to clash with OMG 2, which limited walkups at various centres. Border 2 will not have to deal with this and will have scope for better walkups, targeting around Rs. Earning of Rs 35 crore on the first day. That said, there is room for improvement. Border 2 is a film that usually picks up momentum closer to its release, so it may do better than this.

The focus now is on getting the right reception and taking this start forward. Monday is a big national holiday of Republic Day, hence there should be a massive turnout for this patriotic themed film. Last year was a mixed bag for the Hindi film industry, but it ended on a strong note with the record-breaking earnings of Dhurandhar. With Borderlands 2, 2026 is set to carry that momentum forward, with many more major releases scheduled throughout the year.
