The earnings of Border 2 have declined at the box office for the sixth day on Wednesday. The film is running about 35 per cent less in the evening shows compared to Tuesday, which points to Rs. 12 crore net day. Night shows may provide some recovery, but the lead is around Rs. Looks limited to. Maximum Rs 14 crore nett, which still shows a huge decline from the previous day. The decline is everywhere, the situation in Uttar Pradesh is better, but in most other places there is a decline of 30-40 per cent.
Since Monday was a holiday, Tuesday became the first normal working day for the film. However, Tuesdays have been performing stronger than typical weekdays since the recent introduction of Discount Tuesdays. Although the film did not opt for a discount, the additional audience probably came out of habit, which was also seen with Dhurandhar. Thus, Wednesday actually became the first normal workday, and business declined today. That’s why it was being said that Wednesday’s hold would give more clarity on the lifetime prospects of the film.
The collections are still good to good, but for a film like Border 2, you expect good to good, and even more so when the film shows an extraordinary trend in the past. This trend was not entirely organic, as there were block bookings, particularly on Sundays and Mondays, which were for the armed forces. The volume of these bookings is unknown, but it appears that they were substantial. With those out of the way, it seems the film has now settled into its more organic footing.
Based on its weekend trends, the film should have grossed Rs. The Rs 500 crore-plus final, which was mostly ruled out after Tuesday, is now worth around Rs. Rs 350 crore seems a more likely scenario. Border 2 remains the first hit of the year for the Hindi film industry and will probably be a super hit. Blockbuster may be difficult here, unless the second weekend does something surprising. Nonetheless, this is another big win for Sunny Deol 2.0, continuing his remarkable resurgence after the historic success of Gadar 2 in 2023.
