Farhan Akhtar announces theatrical release date of Manipuri film boongBacked by him and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. boong Won the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award in the Best Children and Family Film category.

In her BAFTA-winning speech, Lakshmipriya Devi highlighted the ongoing unrest in Manipur, using the platform to appeal for peace and hope. In her emotional speech she said, “I just want to use this opportunity to say that we pray for peace to return to Manipur. We pray that all the internally displaced children, including the child actors in the film, regain their happiness, their innocence and their dreams once again.”

boong It attracted considerable attention after its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. The story revolves around a young boy from a village in Manipur, living with his single mother after the mysterious disappearance of his father Joykumar. Having earlier worked away from home, Joykumar disappeared completely leaving his family in a state of uncertainty. Motivated by a desire to give his mother “the best gift ever”, the young hero and his friend set out on a quest to find the missing man, giving the film a poignant emotional center.

Produced by Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures, the film was also selected as the Spotlight Film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025.
