Why is Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres Tour in India special?
If you are a true Coldplay fan, you might know that this is not Coldplay’s first performance in India. In 2016, the band performed for the first time in India at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. But it was part of a larger initiative focusing specifically on global issues such as poverty alleviation, gender equality and education.
Fast forward to 2025, and Coldplay are set to return to India with their Music of the Spheres World Tour – a performance that in many ways is galaxies apart from their previous outing.
While their 2016 performance at the Global Citizen Festival was part of a multi-artist charity event, Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres Tour is a full-circle moment, centered entirely around them.
This time, fans can expect a unique and intense experience that is completely dedicated to his music and vision. The band’s setlist, production and moody themes are taken straight from their ninth studio album, and it promises an unforgettable journey through sound and emotion. Social media has already ramped up the excitement, with viral Instagram reels giving fans a glimpse of what’s in store – a concert-like experience unlike any other, mesmerizing visuals, heart-touching Full of captivating performances and unforgettable moments.
A spectacle of sound, light and technology
In addition to their vast playlist, which includes songs about love, loss, hope, and happiness, Coldplay concerts are often called “the experience of a lifetime” for their spectacular sound and light theatrics, not to mention their amazing state-of-the-art technology. It is just not done.
With their Music of the Spheres Tour, the band has taken live performance to a new level with interactive wristbands, stunning augmented reality visuals (the moon glasses contain all of our hearts), and larger-than-life stage designs. Each concert feels like stepping into a cosmic wonderland, with music accompanied by vibrant lights and planet-themed visuals enhancing the narrative of their album.
This level of immersive production was absent from their 2016 performance, where the focus was more on their music and their role in the Global Citizen campaign. With Music of the Spheres, Coldplay is delivering a deeply curated concert experience that brings their divine vision to life across the globe (and we’re assuming the magic is happening in India too).
stability at its core
If your carbon footprint concerns you, you’ll be happy to know that the Music of the Spheres Tour has sustainability at its core. Coldplay has taken significant steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their tour, including the use of renewable energy, solar-powered stages, and biodegradable confetti. The tour encourages fans to travel frequently, which is especially relevant in a densely populated country like India.
India’s love for music festivals is growing
Over the past decade, global stars such as Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa and U2 have performed in India, leading to the country emerging as a hotspot for international music events. In 2023, India also welcomed the iconic Lollapalooza music festival, which drew huge crowds and cemented its place on the global music event map. With Coldplay returning to the country this year for the Music of the Spheres World Tour, the love for concerts is reaching fever pitch (the calendar will confirm it). This could also mean that big international stars are moving towards India, which was not the case even two-three years ago.
So, if you have tickets to Coldplay’s Mumbai (or Ahmedabad) concert, consider yourself lucky – your trip starry sky Officially starting soon.
