Bharathiraja passes away at 84: Mohanlal, Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun and others pay tribute
Veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja passed away in Chennai at the age of 84 after prolonged illness. Tributes from across South Indian cinema underlined his lasting impact on generations of artists.

There is a wave of mourning in the entire film industry due to the demise of great filmmaker Bharathiraja. Hours after the news of his death broke on Wednesday, actors and filmmakers including Mohanlal, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Prakash Raj and SS Rajamouli paid tribute to the director, remembering his immense contribution to Indian cinema.
The renowned Tamil filmmaker, actor and screenwriter passed away in Chennai on June 10 after a prolonged illness. He was 84 years old.

One of the first to mourn his death was Mohanlal, who worked with Bharathiraja Thudaram. Sharing a note on
Telugu star Chiranjeevi also remembered the filmmaker with a series of old pictures. Bharathiraja is mentioned by his popular alias, Iyakkanar Imayam (directors’ summit), the actor called him “one of its greatest storytellers”.

On Wednesday, actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan reached Bharathiraja’s residence to pay his last respects. Rajinikanth later spoke to the media and expressed grief over the demise of his longtime colleague and friend.

Telugu star Allu Arjun in his social media post described Bharathiraja as “a true legend whose vision, storytelling and contribution to Indian cinema will remain timeless.” Expressing condolences to the filmmaker’s family, he said Bharathiraja’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers and artistes.
Actor Prakash Raj shared an emotional note on social media, writing, “#BhartiRaja sir. Will miss you my dear. Your love for life. Inspirational conversations and your memorable moments in cinema. Thank you for everything. Love you. May your soul rest in peace.”
Actress Kajal Aggarwal also expressed her condolences to Bharathiraja’s family, friends and fans.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli remembered Bharathiraja as a pioneer who changed Indian cinema through his distinctive storytelling. He wrote, “Those unforgettable rural tales, that fearless vision and the authenticity they brought to the screen will live forever.”
Others who also paid their tribute include Simran, Trisha Krishnan, Ravi Mohan, Raghava Lawrence, Vishal, Suriya and others.
