A San Francisco Bay Area cemetery removed a banner at a 9/11 memorial advertising a new Islamic section after community protest.NBC Bay Area reported that the owner of Memorial Gardens Cemetery said they had recently sold a portion of the property to a Muslim family, and “they gave them permission to put up the signage but did not authorize them to drape it over the 9/11 installation.“The owner reportedly removed the signage, but community residents said the signage should never have been installed in the first place.Danny Kimmel, a resident of Concord, California, said a banner advertising an Islamic memorial garden above the 9/11 memorial was placed in front of the cemetery where his mother is buried, NBC Bay Area reported.“I felt like some kind of punch in the stomach,” he said, according to the report. “To see that symbol on that monument is kind of crazy in my thoughts.”Kimmel’s brother was killed in Vietnam, and he said his mother would be completely against putting up the banner.“She won’t just roll over – she’ll get up and walk away,” he said.Danny Kimmel’s sister-in-law Violet Kimmel also shared the concerns.“There’s room for everyone, but have a little respect for where you’re going to put your things.”
