Avatar: Fire and Ash Worldwide Box Office Day 19: James Cameron’s sci-fi film crosses US$1 billion mark

Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to dominate the box office. Although it debuted at a lower level than Avatar: The Way of Water, its box office trends are somewhat better than those of its predecessor. Avatar: The Way of Water entered the US$1 billion club on its third Saturday (Day 19), with US$777 million coming from international markets alone. Avatar 3’s domestic gross has crossed the US$300 million mark.

With his entry into the Billion Club, James Cameron made history by becoming the only filmmaker to have four films enter the US$1 billion box office club at the worldwide box office. His first film to achieve this feat was Titanic (1997), followed by Avatar (2009), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), and the latest entrant, Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025).

The latest Avatar film has even surpassed Moana 2’s finale and emerged as the 10th highest-grossing film in the post-pandemic era. It also overtook The Rise of Skywalker and Joker to become the 41st highest-grossing film of all time.

Based on current trends, the sci-fi action adventure is looking to wrap up its domestic business around US$400 to 450 million. Its final global gross is expected to be around US$1.50 billion to US$1.70 billion by the end of its theatrical run.

Although the film is performing well, it is still far behind its previous film Avatar: The Way of Water at the box office. This probably happened because the third installment received a mixed response among audiences and critics, which affected its potential. Furthermore, the anticipation for The Way of Water was on another level as it was coming after almost a decade. Nevertheless, Avatar 3 is witnessing a successful theatrical run.
