Austin Butler, best known for his role in Elvis and Dune Part Two, is set to play Patrick Bateman in the new adaptation of Luca Guadagnino’s horror novel, American Psycho. This news was exclusively reported Diversity,
The novel, written by Bret Easton Ellis and published in 1991, was previously made into a film in 2000, starring Christian Bale as Bateman, a wealthy Manhattan investment banker who leads a double life as a serial killer.
Diversity It was also reported that the project is not a remake of the 2000 film but a fresh interpretation of the original novel. Scott Z. Burns, known for his work on films like Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum, will adapt the screenplay.
The project is backed by Hollywood studio Lionsgate and will be produced by Frenesi Films, which also includes Pressman Film, which produced the original film.
Butler, who received an Oscar nomination for playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic, has earned critical praise for his roles in Dune: Part Two, The Bikeriders and the miniseries Masters of the Air. His upcoming projects include Ari Aster’s comedy-western Eddington with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone and Darren Aronofsky’s ’90s crime thriller Caught Stealing with Zoe Kravitz.
Guadagnino, who has previously directed films like Challengers, Suspiria and Call Me By Your Name, most recently directed Queer with Daniel Craig. He is currently working on After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts in the lead role.
