Asthram is a Tamil Crime Thriller, who hit a large screen on 21 March 2025. Asthram follows Inspector Akkilan (Sham), who is on medical leave due to hand injury. Despite this, he begins to investigate a series of unusual public suicides, where the victims stab themselves. He works closely with the miscreant officer Sumanth to detect a link between cases. His investigation shows that all the deceased were chess players. They also discover a strange book called Chess – The Secret, which refers to the ancient Japanese ritual suicides.
As suicides continue, Akinen exposes a relationship between a psychiatrist named Rudron, who is a wealthy businessman named James and his son Martin. A significant background related to the case of a major flashback heard by Rudron is revealed. The investigation leads to the principle that the victims were hypnotized to commit suicide. Along with the police work, Akalan’s personal life is shown through conversation with his wife, Neera, a media professional. What happens next to you now.
Cast and crew of athrum
Asthram has a cast which includes Sham, Venba, Arol D Shankar, Nizgal Ravi, Neera, Ranjith DSM, Jeeva Ravi and Foreign Anand. The film has been produced by DSM Dhanshanuamamani and directed by debutant Arvind Rajagopal. The story, screenplay and dialogues have been written by Jegan MS. Kalyan Venkatraman handles cinematography, while editing is performed by Bhupathi Vedgiri.
