As UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation amid growing political turmoil, a “Cabinet member” once again attracted attention; Who now awaits the 7th Prime Minister in 10 years – Larry the Cat, “Chief Mouser of the Cabinet Office”Larry, the brown and white tabby who serves as Chief Mouser at 10 Downing Street, has over the years become one of Britain’s most recognizable political mascots.Following the announcement of Starmer stepping down, the official ‘parody’ account representing the cat made a number of posts with sarcasm and humour. “”I have accepted the resignation of Keir Starmer as my chief servant and have invited Andy Burnham to detail how much food he will give me a day,” it said on the X, referring to one of the main challengers to succeed Starmer.Another post, shared at 5pm, shared a photo of Rishi Sunak, the only Rishi who resigned in the midterms and lost the election, saying, “Another one bitten.”Originally rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Larry moved to Downing Street in 2011 and has since worked under six British Prime Ministers, including David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer.Now considered a permanent fixture of British politics, the cat is often seen posing for photographs with world leaders, journalists and government officials outside the Prime Minister’s residence.
