This season makes us feel refreshed and happy after the scorching heat. However, this is also the season when we experience a little more hair fall and damage than other seasons. This is due to the humidity, which weakens our hair follicles, leading to increased hair fall. While this is a common problem during monsoons, increased hair fall can shake our confidence. As much as external factors affect our hair health, it is also possible that your diet lacks the nutrients required for healthy hair. 5 Nutritionist-Approved Tips to Reduce Hair Fall During Monsoon

1. Take omega 3 supplements

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for maintaining healthy hair. They help nourish hair follicles and promote hair growth. According to nutritionist Lima Mahajan, if you are not taking supplements, include omega-3-rich foods like hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts and chia seeds in your diet to get the nutrients you need to strengthen your hair from within.

2. Add curry leaves to your diet

Curry leaves are rich in amino acids, antioxidants and beta-carotene, which are essential for hair health. Include 7-8 curry leaves in your daily diet to prevent hair loss. According to nutritionists, you can include curry leaves in your diet in the form of soups, dal, etc.

3. Apply homemade oil

Nutritionist Lima Mahajan shares an easy homemade oil recipe that can prevent hair fall during monsoons. All you need is mustard oil, almond oil, castor oil, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and henna leaves. Apply it 30 minutes to 1 hour before washing your hair and enjoy healthy and shiny hair.

4. Eat foods rich in iron and folic acid

Iron and folic acid are important for hair growth, and a deficiency of these can lead to hair loss. According to nutritionists, add 1 tablespoon of spirulina, halim seeds or moringa to your diet, or eat dates and figs regularly to increase your iron and folic acid levels.

5. Add protein to your diet

According to nutritionists, make sure you are taking 1 gram of protein per kilogram of your body weight with a balanced diet. Protein is the building block of hair, and proper protein intake is important for maintaining healthy hair.

Avoid These Foods for Healthy Hair

Diet plays a huge role in maintaining healthy, shiny and strong hair. Now that you know which foods can help you prevent hair fall during monsoon, note which foods you should avoid consuming.

1. Refined flour

Refined flour has a very high glycemic index (GI), which can cause an immediate spike in blood sugar levels. This can adversely affect our hair health and lead to hair loss. Choose healthier options like brown rice or whole grain bread instead of white bread or white rice.

2. Carbonated drinks

Although carbonated beverages are fizzy and refreshing, they should be avoided for healthy hair. Many studies show that carbonated beverages can increase the risk of hair loss. So, drink homemade cola instead of drinking cola for natural refreshment.

3. Fried foods

Fried foods like chips, French fries, samosas, pakoras, etc. have a high oil content, which can clog the pores, making our scalp extra oily. This can lead to excessive hair fall and many hair-related problems.

4. Sweet foods

Sweet foods might seem tempting, but they can cause hair loss. This is because high amounts of sugar can cause inflammation and easily damage hair follicles. So, stay away from sweet treats like candy, chocolates, etc.
