Are commodity markets MCX and NCDEX closed on January 1, 2026? Check here

India’s largest non-agri commodity exchange – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will be open for trading between 9 am to 5 pm in the first session and will be closed during the evening session. The largest agri commodity exchange, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also open in the morning session while observing holidays in the evening session.

All intra-day commodity positions will be settled at 4:50 PM.

Most major global stock and commodity markets will be closed for trading on Thursday, January 1. Markets in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, France, Germany, UAE, UK and US will be closed on New Year’s Day. Meanwhile, stock markets in China and Japan will have an extended New Year holiday on Friday, January 2.

For MCX, evening session timings are from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm, while for NCDEX, it is between 5 pm to 9 pm and morning sessions for both start from 9 am.

The official 2026 trading holiday calendar for MCX and NCDEX was recently released by the exchanges, giving investors and traders early visibility into the non-trading days in the cash and derivatives segments.

Here is the complete list of MCX holidays in 2026:

1. January 1: Opens in the morning session while closes in the evening session.

2. Republic Day, 26 January: Closed in both sessions.
3. Holi, March 3: MCX will be open in the morning session while closed in the evening session.

4. Shri Ram Navami, March 26: MCX will be closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
5. Shri Mahavir Jayanthi, March 31: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
6. Good Friday, April 03: Closed in both sessions.
7. Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, April 14: Closed in the morning session but will open for business in the evening.
8. Maharashtra Day, May 1: MCX will be closed in the morning session and open in the evening session.
9. Bakri Id, May 28: MCX will be closed in the morning session and open in the evening session.
10. Muharram, June 26: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
11. Ganesh Chaturthi, September 14: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
12. Mahatma Gandhi, Jayanthi, October 2: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
13. Dussehra, October 20: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
14. Diwali-Baliprathipada, November 10: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
15. Guru Nanak, Jayanthi, November 24: Closed in the morning session and open in the evening.
16. Christmas, 25 December: Closed in both sessions.

With the exception of January 1, NCDEX will be closed on the above dates in both sessions.

The following holidays fall on Saturday/Sunday:

— Mahashivratri February 15, 2026 Sunday

— Eid-ul-Fitr (Eid of Ramadan) March 21, 2026 Saturday

— Independence Day, August 15, 2026, Saturday

— Diwali Lakshmi Pujan, November 8, 2026, Sunday

Muhurta trading will be conducted on Sunday, November 8, 2026. The timing of muhurta trading will be notified later by the exchanges.
