Music maestro AR Rahman’s wife Saira has announced her separation from her husband. Saira’s lawyer Vandana Shah released an official statement regarding the couple’s decision to separate.

“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has taken the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional stress in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple have found that stress and difficulties have created a gulf between them that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira stressed that she had taken this decision due to pain and suffering. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time as she navigates this difficult chapter of her life,” the statement said.

The two, who married in 1995, are parents to three children – Khatija, Rahima and Ameen.

On the work front, Rahman’s last project was Dhanush’s second directorial venture, Raayan. Subsequently, he would compose music for films like Chhaava, Thug Life, Gandhi Talks and others.
