Apoorva Lakhia explains why Salman Khan’s war drama was renamed Mathrubhumi
Apoorva Lakhia reveals the reason behind changing the name of Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan to Mathrubhumi. He said the title change was not an “overnight decision”.

Actor Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama, previously titled battle of galwanhas been officially renamed Motherland: Let there be peace in war. The film’s director Apoorva Lakhia has now reacted to the title change, saying that it is not a “decision taken overnight”.
In an interview with Lakhia HT Citymentioned that the decision to change the name of the film was not a sudden one. He said, “Changing the title may seem sudden to SK Sir fans, but it was never a decision taken overnight. Right from the beginning, we had registered two titles – battle of galwan And Homeland. As we went through the journey of making our film, we realized that it was never about a fight. At its core, the film is about humanity, empathy and the silent battle fought by our soldiers.”

The director said the war-drama focuses on “preserving humanity even in conflict situations”. “Motherland: Let there be peace in war Captures that emotion and sacrifice much more truthfully. This reflects the soul of the story – preserving humanity even in the face of conflict. Lakhia said, there is a song with the same name in the film and the love it has received from the audience makes the title even more appropriate.
The new poster of the film released along with the announcement shows Khan in a serious look – with a scar on his forehead and bloodied hands holding a wooden weapon.
Homeland Currently scheduled for theatrical release on April 17. However, recent reports indicate a possible delay, with the release potentially being moved to mid-August.
Although the makers have not finalized the update yet, the change could lead to a significant box-office clash with Lahore 1947. The film starring actor Sunny Deol is already scheduled for release on August 13, 2026, which is scheduled for the Independence Day holiday weekend.
Homeland Chitrangada Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary and others also star in lead roles.
