Anurag Kashyap says Christopher Nolan’s film equipment has been confiscated by Indian authorities
Anurag Kashyap recently revealed how filmmaker Christopher Nolan was treated by Indian customs officials during the shooting of ‘Tenet’. Major scenes of the film were shot in Mumbai.

Anurag Kashyap recently shared how Indian customs officials treated filmmaker Christopher Nolan when he visited the country to shoot ‘Tenet’. Some of the key scenes of the 2020 science-fiction film were shot in Mumbai.
While speaking to Fever FM, Anurag Kashyap revealed that there was once a proper system to fund films, but now things have changed. He said, “There was a film body that supported people like Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani, but now, the subsidies that some states offer to lure filmmakers take eight years to come through. A lot of it is just a gimmick.”
He further added, “You should someday talk to Christopher Nolan’s team about the problems they had to go through while shooting Tenet in India. You will be shocked to see how they were treated. Their equipment was confiscated by customs. There are thousands of such stories. Let us stop fooling ourselves that there is a system that empowers cinema.”
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap recently spoke about how India had no hand in the films that won and did well at Cannes 2024. Payal Kapadia, who won the award for her film ‘All We Imagine As Light’, was congratulated and lauded as the next big name to come from the country. However, the filmmaker highlighted the irony of the situation and shared how it would be tough for a filmmaker like Kapadia to survive in India.
Anurag Kashyap is all set to work on the Hostar series ‘Bad Cop’ with Gulshan Devaiah who is playing a double role in the Aditya Dutt directorial.
