What is the Epstein Files?
The Epstein Files refer to the vast trove of court documents, emails, flight logs, photographs and testimony related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors and later died in prison. The newly released installment is part of the ongoing unsealing of records involving Epstein’s associates and the social network, which have been made public in the US following legal pressure and court orders.
The latest documents include previously sealed correspondence, contact lists and witness materials that shed light on Epstein’s relationships with influential figures in politics, business, academia and entertainment. The damaging files mention prominent figures such as Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist, who allegedly exchanged messages on political strategy with Jeffrey Epstein; Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary and Harvard president, who he is said to have asked for advice on personal matters; and academic Noam Chomsky, who once described Epstein as a “highly valued friend”.
Earlier logs and communications also mention figures such as Elon Musk, Prince Andrew and former US President Bill Clinton, all of whom have denied any wrongdoing.
Donald Trump, who knew Epstein in the past, has faced allegations of inappropriate behavior from some survivors, but has denied any involvement in criminal activity.
