Anurag Kashyap criticizes Shankar’s ‘reel-like’ approach towards Game Changer
Anurag Kashyap criticized Shankar’s reel-like approach for his upcoming film Game Changer. He warned filmmakers against sacrificing creativity for audience expectations.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has expressed concern over the growing trend among filmmakers, responding to game changer director S Shankar’s comments about allegedly tailoring films to suit the diminishing attention span of the audience.
During a meeting in Dallas, Shankar reportedly remarked that the structure of His upcoming film is game changer Designed to cater to contemporary viewing habits, its format was compared to a series of Instagram Reels.
Reacting to this, Kashyap shared his views on the implications of such an approach. “I was recently reading this statement by Shankar sir, in which he said, ‘The (attention) span of today’s audience has become very small. They watch reels. So, we kept this in mind while making Game Changer Is.’ I don’t know what it means, and we will know only when we watch the film,” Kashyap told. hollywood reporter,
He continued to criticize changes in creative philosophy. “A lot of filmmakers are talking in this language like, ‘My film is exactly like the reels because that’s what the audience wants to see.’ Filmmakers, who, at one time, were like chefs to me, making things, are becoming caterers.”
Kashyap cautioned against prioritizing audience expectations over artistic vision. “The moment you start thinking about what the audience wants, that’s when the decline starts. The audience is not a one-part individual; It is a vast sea of people. I still go by that old adage that filmmakers used to say: ‘The audience will watch what we present on screen with faith, passion and love.’ That’s how you create a new thing. If you’re trying to guess what the audience wants to see, you’re really sabotaging yourself… limiting yourself.’
Game Changer starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. The trailer of the film is scheduled to be released on January 2 and the film will be released in theaters on January 10.
