Actress Anupama Parameswaran has filed a complaint with the Kerala Cyber Crime Police after discovering an organized online harassment campaign against her. The ‘Tillu Square’ actor revealed that several fake social media accounts were created to circulate morphed pictures and spread false allegations against him, his family and close friends.
What initially seemed like casual trolling soon turned into a coordinated effort of defamation. “A few days ago, it came to my notice that an Instagram profile was circulating extremely inappropriate and false content about me, my family and was even tagging my friends and co-actors,” Anupama wrote in a detailed post shared on Instagram on Sunday morning. The post further read, “The posts included doctored images and baseless allegations – it was deeply disturbing to see such targeted harassment online.”

Cyber police investigation traced the origin of the content to a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu, who allegedly created multiple fake Instagram profiles to post the content. In a compassionate move, Anupama decided not to reveal the identity of the young woman. “To my surprise, it turned out to be a 20-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu. Keeping in mind her young age, I have decided not to disclose her identity, as I don’t want to compromise her future or peace of mind,” she explained.

Although the actor has chosen to sympathize, he has confirmed that legal proceedings are underway. He urged social media users to act responsibly, saying, “Owning a smartphone or having access to a social media platform does not give one the right to harass, defame or spread hatred. Every action online leaves a trace, and accountability will follow.”
Anupama also addressed the widespread impact of cyberbullying, especially on public figures. He said, “Being an actor or public figure does not take away basic rights. Cyberbullying is a punishable offense – and accountability is real.”
His decision to take legal action while responding with restraint is being praised on social media, with many praising him for raising awareness about digital responsibility. “Online harassment has real consequences,” she reminded, emphasizing the need for empathy and accountability in the digital sphere.
Anupama was recently seen in the Telugu film ‘Paradha’ and the hit Tamil film ‘Bison Kalamaadan’ opposite Dhruv Vikram.
