Anupam Kher reveals why he initially rejected late Manmohan Singh biopic The Accidental Prime Minister for this shocking reason: ‘It was very difficult…’

Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh left for his heavenly abode on December 26, 2024. Soon after his demise, India including celebrities from the states expressed their condolences on the demise of the late former Prime Minister. Famous actor Anupam Kher also remembered Dr. Manmohan Singh on social media. Kher revealed that he initially refused to sign The Accidental Prime Minister, in which he played Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India. The actor said that he found it difficult to play his role.

Anupam Kher shared a video of himself on Instagram remembering late Dr. Manmohan Singh. In the video, Kher can be seen talking about Singh’s personality and his meeting with him. The actor also revealed how he initially rejected the role for Vijay Ratnakar Gutte’s 2019 directorial venture, The Accidental Prime Minister for “political reasons”.

“I thought that if I did this role, people would say that maybe I made this film to make fun of them. Which is what some of the usual suspects said. But if I had to choose three or four characters from my life, I think I would have done a great job. To be honest, The Accidental Prime Minister will be one of those films…” Kher can be heard saying in the clip.

Talking about portraying Dr. Manmohan Singh on screen, Kher said, “It was very difficult to play the role because there were all the physical aspects but I didn’t want to make a caricature of him (it was quite difficult to play him) ) Although I may have known his physical aspects, I did not want to create a caricature of his personality)…”

Anupam Kher also paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh in the caption. Kher wrote, “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of former #Prime Minister of India #Dr.ManmohanSingh! After studying him for over a year for the film #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, it felt like I had actually lived through his life.” Spent so much time together.”

The 69-year-old actor called the late former prime minister “totally honest, a great economist and humble”. “He was naturally a good human being. Personally completely honest, a great economist and a very humble person. Some might say he can’t be a smart politician! My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti,” read his post further.

Talking about the work front, Anupam Kher was last seen in the film Vijay 69 this year. Now they have an emergency in the pipeline.
