Anubhav Sinha on Deepika Padukone’s 8 hour shift stance: Resolve disputes privately

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has reignited the conversation over fixed working hours in Bollywood, an issue first brought up by actress Deepika Padukone. Asi The director said that actors have the right to set their own limits regarding working hours. He also said that production teams can choose whether or not to adjust these preferences.

In a recent discussion with journalist Subhankar Mishra, 60-year-old Sinha said, “If an actor wants to work six hours a day, and you don’t agree with that, don’t work with that actor. It’s that simple.” During the interview, Sinha also recalled his experience of working with Rishi Kapoor.

Reflecting on my filming experience country Along with late actor Rishi Kapoor in 2018, Sinha explained how open communication led to practical solutions.

Kapoor expressed his reluctance to shoot at night after reading the script. There was a conversation between the two and a fixed number of night shoots was agreed upon. Although the schedule changed slightly during production, the matter was resolved amicably. Sinha said that accepting such requests was never an issue as he valued Kapoor’s contribution to the film.

Deepika Padukone’s perspective on working hours

Giving his opinion on Deepika’s alleged demand for eight-hour shifts, Sinha clarified that he does not pay attention to industry gossip and has not directly collaborated with her. However, after speaking to colleagues who have worked with Padukone, he shared that they called her “a delightful actress to work with”.

Sinha argued that it is the decision of the filmmakers to accept or reject an actor’s demand for working hours. “Why create controversy?” he asked, comparing professional disagreements in the film industry to domestic matters which need not be made public.

He suggested that disputes regarding scheduling should be resolved privately between the parties involved. According to Sinha, airing such issues publicly only encourages unnecessary debate and spoils the collaborative spirit of filmmaking.

Commenting on the physical demands of acting, Sinha said that the visibility of film actors on the big screen means that even the slightest signs of fatigue can be noticed by the audience. He said concerns over working hours should be considered a practical issue rather than a source of contention in the industry.

The fixed working hours debate gained momentum after Deepika reportedly walked out of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s project. Soul Over creative differences and his request for an eight-hour workday. Trupti Dimri is now the heroine of the film opposite lead actor Prabhas.
